  Photoshop Masking best Tutorial

People are often keen to look for ways to "cut" or Bilder Freistellen someone or something from a photo and replace them with another person, or place the person against a different background. They're also looking for ways to colorize a portion of a photo. The trick, of course, is in how to select the person, or area of the photo, so that you can manipulate it. Photoshop comes equipped with numerous masking features that allow you to make special selections.

The ABC of masking is incredibly simple but very mighty. Just imagine what a real mask does. Everything behind the mask is not visible and everything else is visible. I'll guide you through the some easy steps to mask an object of an image through potent editing weapon known as masking. Here I will use the quick mask tool to colorize a part of an image in just easy 4 steps.
The popular idea behind using the quick mask tool is to make a selection of a portion, or portions of your image so that you can apply some correction or effect to those areas while leaving other (unselected) areas the same.

1. Open up an image in Photoshop that you want to mask and double-click the quick mask icon in Photoshop's toolbar.
Remember, you can activate and use the quick mask tool with a single-click, but double-clicking the tool's icon opens up the Quick Mask Options dialog box

Go to the color swatch and pick a color as per your image color. Basically the color is chosen that contrast with the to-do masking image. Red is generally a good color choice for quick masks. But it’s upon to you to pick color. Click OK, now that you've set your quick mask tool options.

2. Now, in the quick mask mode, grab the Brush tool and, from within the tool options for the Brush tool, set the brush size and hardness. I'll start with a fairly big brush (80px.) and with the hardness set to 100%

Before you start painting, make sure that you set the default foreground and background colors.  You can do so quickly by hitting the 'D' key. Keep painting the mask until you have all of the portions of your image is painted over thoroughly.

3. Get back into standard editing mode. Select the part of the area you want to apply masking with any of the selecting path tools. You can tell if this is so by looking for the selection markers.

4. Time to impose a mask on the desired area. To do so simply choose Select and then Inverse Now you can go in the quick mask mode and see the painted color mask outside the selected area. . It will show your final mask! You are free now to save it and enjoy!

You can save the selection by going back in the standard mode. To save the selection, choose Select, Save Selection. A dialogue box will pop up named save selection.

Name it and then click OK.
Voila! You have got your image masked.
Of course, the real magic comes when you apply corrections/filters to the selected area. We'll tackle that in an upcoming tutorial from our site by correcting the exposure of part of a photograph.

In the meantime here's a puzzle. The photo below was created by using the mask to select the main object so that copies of him/her could be pasted into the photograph.
